Purple Cabbage Pulav

When u n ur kids r bored out of eating the same old veg n non veg briyanis , then u r at the correct place . This is a different type of pulav . Whenever I visit a market , I used to wonder as what ppl do with this colourful veggie (purple cabbage) . And  later, I came across this recipe from a book and got excited to try it immediately.It came out well in the first try itself.


Ingredients :

· Big onion –  1
· Red cabbage – 1 / 2
· Potato – 1
· Green peas - 1/4  cup
· Tomato – 2
· Basmati rice – 2 cups
· Curd – 1 Tbsp
· Garam masala – 1 ½ tsp
· Oil for frying


To grind  

· Big onion – 1(To be fried)
· Garlic – 4 (To be fried)
· Ginger – 1 inch
· Red chilli - 2
· Cashew nuts – 5-6
· Coriander seeds – 1 ½ tsp
· Grated Coconut – 2 Tbsp



Method :

1.Soak rice in water for 10 mins. Chop onion and red cabbage and keep it aside. Half boil potato and peas. Puree the tomato(Put them in hot water and then peel the outer skin.Now grind and filter the tomatos).
Fry onion and garlic. Grind them along with other ingredients under “To grind”.


3·  Take a pressure pan and add butter and oil. Add the onion and fry until it turns golden brown.

4.Then add the chopped red cabbage. And also add the ground the masala until the raw smell goes off.

5.  Add the tomato juice and curd along with garam masala and salt. Add water and allow it to boil. When it boils, add the rice. Rice and water must be in 1:2 ratio. Pressure cook for not more than 2 whistles.
